[ what a wild day! after the heroes go about their business, temenos can be find in the alley with the vending machines, hand to his chin, surveying his kingdom.
... by which i mean he has no fucking idea where to even START with all these drinks. can a guy just get a refreshing jam around here. send help this ye olde is in distress. ]
but jolyne is here because she's been craving a soda, giving a big stretch of her arms as she approaches the general vending vicinity. a ye olde in distress is funny, and she just swans up curiously, though takes in his robes briefly with a half-beat of hesitance. ]
at some point once things have settled a little, temenos can be found sitting quietly on a bench near the (exploded) fountain, holding the staff of judgement in his lap and looking reflective. he's not quite mind palace levels of it, but he is frowning and silent - though when jolyne comes by, he gives her a small nod in greeting. hi. ]
[ yeahhhhhhhhh. she just nods back at him a little, her hands shoved into her pockets. she doesn't really say anything at first because she doesn't have the words right now, so she just sits down beside him on the bench, staring downwards at the ground, her shoulder's hunched. ]
[ well jolyne is here wearing a cute jaunty lil cap today with her hair down in a ponytail. she is cruising with her arms full of... graphic novels because there's Fiction Here, but she pauses when she spies temenos and kind of walks backwards to go see him. ]
temenos is here with his nose in a book! he’s got a sling on his right arm, but that does not stop his perusal; what does is jolyne’s approach. he smiles when she starts to walk backwards, lightly amused, and rests his hand on the book. ]
Oh, enjoying the spoils. You might not believe it - [ said very dryly ] but the library in the hamlet of Flamechurch, home of the Church of the Sacred Flame, has only books about… the church, and all things within and relating to it.
[ everybody's out in the park today. temenos is too! he's sitting on a bench, notebook in his lap, though he mostly appears to just be thinking instead of writing.
his eyes are closed...? perhaps he's in the mind palace...? ]
jolyne will approach quietly. she was mostly roaming to grab some fresh air, so hey... why not say hi? noticing he's got his eyes closed, she lifts a hand and waves it in front of him a little to see if the air maybe will stir him. then, softly: ]
[ happy monday! temenos is... in the bookstore. shocking no one. wow.
he's perusing a collection of stationery at the moment instead of a book, though, examining pens - when he spots jolyne and her brightly colored everything, he offers her a little smile and a nod of his head in greeting. ]
she really is just a glowstick at this point, it's fine. she's looking at notebooks and flipping through them curiously. hmm hmm. she'll pause through to give him a little smile, snapping the notebook shut. ]
Hi Tem. Yeah, this mall's pretty neat... [ can't wait to see how we ruin it this time! ] This place must be right up your alley, yeah? [ nerd ] All new books just for you.
[ there is a small and awfully fluffy bunny sitting on a table in the commercial area near where the restaurants are. it's just sitting on a table? vibing?
it's also wearing the tiniest little white cloak and occasionally looks up at the sky like its suffering. it's also sitting on a phone that has a suspiciously yellow case. ]
[ we are here in this our holy casino-office space-buffet-chapel building. jolyne is holding a glass of something indiscernible and has a cigarette poking out of her lip, unlit. she probably isn't allowed to bring a drink up here, but she's a delinquent and she's not letting anyone stop her, she has smuggled so many things into places she shouldn't, what's a glass?
in any case she's gonna just sit herself down on pew in the center of the chapel and stare ahead. ]
[ muffled sounds of downtown from little shop of horrors plays (no)
but in any case i'll just stick us by the herb store because it's also got candles and useful tinctures and such. jolyne is probably peering at it curiously because sometimes the stores with the cute glass bottles just kinda suck you in? a lot? temenos is hard to miss, so when she sees him, she'll stroll over, hands resting in her pockets. ]
[ temenos is here! he's looking at teas at the moment, picking through a couple of varieties of chamomile. when jolyne addresses him, he tilts his head towards her in greeting. ]
[ well she'll give him a bit of time to settle before coming over to check in on him. making the pre-curfew rounds. wherever she might be, she comes bearing gifts - mostly some like lightly sweetened biscuits from the store and a couple of cups of tea in a carry-out tray. ]
he's around in the rabbit dorm, settled on a small couch in the lobby-like foyer with a blanket! and when he spots jolyne, he nods his head and looks appreciative at the gifts. weh. ]
Ah.. you didn't have to - thank you. [ sweets... ] I'm alright: I've certainly had worse. Seems as though it was a busy Thursday.
[ goooooin' to the chapel and we're goooooonna think about how insane that trial was. she's just here with a drink in a to-go up and a another little cup full of maraschino cherries. her knuckles are all wrapped up and she's just vibing, but when she sees temenos, she will just beeline it to wherever he happens to be and settles in next to him. ]
He's a real fuckin' idiot. Thinking what he did would fix anything.
[ it's yet another wild ass saturday which means he's settled in a pew in the small chapel. the hubbub of the casino outside is quieter here, and it's a place of sanctuary, or at least perhaps a place to think.
he's also holding his book in his hands - the one with the gold embossed cover. when jolyne comes to sit, he doesn't say anything, at first, and then, huffs and shakes his head. ]
I believe a real idiot might be an understatement. [ he does not drop the f bomb even though today deserves it. ] So much for strength.
[ well i am just throwing you right into it because you were at the top of my inbox so
temenos is minding his own business sitting out at the cafe today, back in his priest clothes and vibing, when he spots jolyne. and its a moment later that the comic panels begin. ]
it starts with a conversation (to 8:06, unvoiced) - reminiscing with agnea, as you travel through crackridge. she notes that your eyes are red, but you pass over it easily with a smile, and a compliment that flusters her, a little. the conversation could move on, and then - there's something about agnea, that it's hard not to talk to her, so you eventually confess a bit of nostalgia. about the person who was raised side by side with you, the one who was the inquisitor before you took up the mantle.
he's been on your mind, lately. you're having the dream again.
--
it's a chilly fall evening.
it must be midnight, when the knock comes. it's insistent and loud, startling you out of a completely peaceful slumber in your home back in flamechurch. you rise out of bed and pull on your cloak, to the sound of roi, your closest friend, the foundling raised beside you.
"temenos! it is i!", he says, knocking again, insistent. you sigh as you open the door. (to 6:17.)
this kind of talk is... unusual, for roi. roi is the most optimistic person you've ever known - he is honest to a fault, to a foolhardy one, earnest and sincere. you learned to be a cynic to protect him, because you knew he wouldn't protect himself. so, to hear the words from his mouth - "Temenos, I...I can no longer trust the church!" - something's very, very wrong.
roi explains to you in a rush about the darkblood bow as he presents it to you, an ominous thing. "It cannot be allowed to exist." roi says, his voice picking up in panic, explaining that he and the pontiff tried to destroy it, and they couldn't. he explains to you that he's going to hide the object, this bow, spirit it away from flamechurch, away from whatever malicious forces could have been using it.
"The church has secrets. Extraordinary, terrible secrets." are his last words to you.
you dream of those words for years afterwards: roi disappears into the night, and never returns.
--
as you journey across solistia, you find others. other travelers, people with their own goals and desires, but people willing to help, the same way people have helped you. you've journeyed through the ice cold of winterbloom and picked up a man face down on the ground and close to death who turned out to be a professor, seeking vengeance after the man who destroyed his life. you find an apothecary with no memories. a merchant, who wants to eliminate poverty. a thief, who becomes your friend.
a hot summer's day takes you to toto'haha, where you find a beastling hunter named ochette. she's seeking to end a calamity - the night of the scarlet moon, that would bring about terrible destruction, and has to find three beasts of legend to get their help. you all agree to help her without hesitation.
over dinner that evening, she tells you the story of what she faced just prior to your arrival. a monster approached and attacked her village. she describes the creature - bones on its back, massive glowing eyes, jaws dripping with saliva, tongue lolling from its mouth, emanating evil. it was twisted and deformed beyond all recognition. ochette sounds sad, as she describes it to the group over dinner, ears drooping to the side, contemplative.
"It spoke to me, and it was... sad."
"What did it say?" asks agnea - she's hanging on the edge of her seat over ochette's story telling at the moment, eyes wide and sad. you sit back, listening, a little amused at the sight, mind running in the background as ever to the information ochette supplies.
ochette tilts her head, trying to remember, and repeats, slowly: "...no longer trust.... cannot be allowed to exist..."
the others make noises of surprise or contemplation but you freeze where you're sitting, your hands tightening on the staff of judgement, and suddenly, their conversation is static in your ears.
"Temenos, I...I can no longer trust the church!"
"It cannot be allowed to exist."
it can't be. that's not logical. it couldn't be.
the moment is gone as quickly as it came - snapped back into place behind the placid mask of your smile when hikari offers you a drink - but your heart is pounding so hard that it feels like you're going to pass out, and you sit there, with your knowledge and the potential, and the doubt.
and, like so many times in your life, you feel that you've lost something --and there are more questions than answers that you'll ever have. ]
[ she's already grabbing a seat when the memory starts in a burst of panels. it catches her off guard, and as she watches it all unfold, a friend, found just the same as he was, taken care of side by side... she thinks about their conversation in the chapel, the books, two sets of handwritten conversations passing words back and forth between the pages of a shared sacred text.
she puts the pieces together the same way temenos does in the story these windows tell, each one passing, her heart clenched as she hears those words, familiar though uttered moments instead of years between.
she drops down into the seat before him at the table. ]
These things... they're really becoming a pain in the ass, aren't they? [ softer, and it's not pity. it's just. pain. the unanswered questions resounding in a room that's gone too silent until the murmurings of the café return. tapping a nail gently on the table now. ] Temenos...
...Ahh. For seeing if someone handled an item? I see.
A fine move for a captain to make - I'd expect nothing less. Your secret is safe with me; it sounds that will be incredibly useful. For the record, I believe the Karaoke Bar and the Park are likely the locations most relevant to Sigrun's death, so we can keep tabs on the items that may have crossed that location. But, we will need to narrow a list of suspects, if you can only use it five times. Additionally, we will need to make sure that no one touches evidence without gloves.
I have something that can help as well, should it be needed. Thank you for trusting me with this information, Jolyne. We will bring the truth to light.
[ welcome to rabbit home!!! temenos makes his way downstairs to open the door for her, and for once he's not in his full priesty clothes, he's in a fit! ]

when he spots jolyne, he immediately looks sympathetic, and nudges out a chair. ]
[ she's just going to beeline it for the chair, her hands around her coffee cup. she sits down and just looks like she's in the slow motion process of wilting. ]
[ she's gonna make her way (downtown) walkin fast faces pass and she's church bound badododododooooo
she's looking a little different today? and by different i mean she has some weird holes in her body that have some strange blue thread running in around them? you can't see her bones or organs (yet), but the threads look like they kind of just hanging around? vibing? occasionally shifting and moving through the various little "windows."
temenos's own transformation is not nearly so dramatic, at least not yet. mostly because i haven't thought that hard about it. but! instead, he's got something awfully fluffy sitting on the top of his head, and since jolyne is just coming in, she might notice there's a suspicious lump under his usual cloak.
he glances over when he's addressed from where he's just sort of fiddling around lighting candles, and offers jolyne a warm smile. ]
Or something like that. Out for a walk, Jolyne? Good day.
[ what's this? it's a bird? it's a plane? no! it's jolyne's sheer delight and mischief as she fucking just scoops temenos up carefully (so he doesn't drop his stick) and just decides to take a bitch flying! get airborne, idiot! ]
