[ uweh. he's got a little pastry on the table that he's barely touched, so he reaches to rip it in half - a choco croissant! - and then pushes the plate over towards her. here. ]
... It will make tomorrow no less difficult, but, I hope that your heart is at least somewhat at ease knowing it seems quite likely our dead will be able to find their way back to us.
[ she looks at the pastry piece for a long while, her appetite has been dead for a while. still, jolyne nods, eventually tearing into it, brow furrowing. ]
I knew something like this was going to happen.
[ still mad that it did happen!!! but at this point, she's too tired to more than furrow her brows. ]
[ sometimes it's satisfying just to tear something up with your fingers, even if it's just a pastry. hopefully she eats, though. ]
That doesn't make it any easier; back to back loss can be particularly difficult.
[ which. he gets that. not here so much, but at home, it was just a part of reality. ]
I hesitate to make any promises, based simply on our track record. [ considering. the whole reigen failure last week. ] But the truth will eventually come to light. It always does.
[ she will. chocolate is a weakness, and once she sees what's inside she will slowly pick at it, albeit unhappily.
she thinks—how she'd witnessed so much more back home. everyone dead in the water, everyone dead. here, it shouldn't be hard, but she's known lillium for weeks, and to crack through and finally reach some kind of surly soft soil to find purchase in. ]
I'm going to find out what happened to him... he's already left behind something good.
[ height measuring... he looks thoughtful. ] If he was particularly accurate in his ability to fire a gun... then perhaps, that is quite possible.
[ as for the hidden gun. he absently tears off a piece of his croissant, too, brow furrowed. ] I can't say that I'm surprised. I imagine many of us are hiding many things - the idea that anyone is completely forthcoming at our item or wardrobe checks is ludicrous. So, with caution, I will warn that it could be very possible that someone else may have done the exact same.
[ there are a Lot of bullets on that evidence list. ]
Just like last week, mm? Doubt everything. Find the truth.
He would be. He was a survivor. We all are in Phoenix.
[ we don't die. we rise. ]
Doubt everything. Yeah. [ she sounds like she hates it. ] We definitely don't have a full view of things. But... if it gives us a head start in separating things out, then that's how it has to be.
Find the truth...
[ glancing over at him ] We're almost there, Temenos...

I think he fired a few bullets in the café... he had a handgun hidden away. Just in case, [ she knows how that sounds considering lillium is never doing weapon check ] but it was never used. I think he fired at someone, might help us a bit with a target height maybe... measuring the height of the bullet hole.
