[ happy saturday! on day two of this being trapped in a weird capsule hotel area, temenos can be found in the lobby, sitting with his little yellow rabbit phone in his hands. his brow is furrowed and he appears to be scrolling the phone.
... though it's with the look of someone who perhaps has never held a phone before in his entire life.
anyway. wow! it's friday. if saya passed by the storybook cafe scene of the crime, she may have noticed temenos standing not too far away, eyes closed, hand on his chin. if she left to deal with something else, and came back, she may find that... he has not moved at all in this span of time period.
... luckily, it seems he's starting to come out of it whenever she approaches again, eyes slowly blinking open, mouth pulled into a thoughtful frown. ]
[ weh my saya. he will take the cape when it's offered, with a small smile - kind as ever, but perhaps he look a tiny bit more tired than usual. what a day. ]
... Thank you, Saya. [ for the apology, and for the cape both. he closes his hands over it and pulls it back, with a small shake of his head. ] It was a sorry experience for everyone involved, not the least of which is Mika herself, but I am glad I could perhaps help her pass in peace, if nothing else.
Mm. [ temenos has his little notebook in front of him - there's a fresh page open, with a few of the crime scene locations and written in his neat handwriting. ]
...An escalation, to say the very least. [ from last week. ] What do you think?
[they are at the mall, where saya is taking a little break from clothes shopping to squint at the newspaper. she will keep going in a bit, but first--]
... Addy has gotten a lot more interesting, lately.
[ hell yeah clothes shopping but also hell yeah newspaper. ] Ahh. You noticed too, hmm?
[ sweet, precious addy.... who is struggling... ]
It's almost like they keep getting silenced midway through their answers... like someone's knocked them out at their very press. Perhaps we've pushed them to their limit.
[ bold of you to assume the big heal was for temenos
as it turns out he is in the rabbit dorm! he's sitting on a couch in the hotel lobby-like dorm front, a blanket tucked over his lap, and no longer in his bloody vestments. ]
...Oh, Saya. [ when he sees her, he perks a little! and then offers a smile. ] Have things begun to settle down...?
What a tantrum he threw. [ top to bottom. ] As if his actions were valid and justified instead of wretched, selfish cruelty.
...Still. Perhaps it is better, in that we were able to vote for him. [ frankly it wouldn't have been as satisfying, and... for temenos, at least, the truth is the most important, above all. ] I feel no dissatisfaction in understanding he will face his maker in an embarrassingly public spectacle tomorrow.
[welcome to (throws dart) the anime store. i'll get you a mem in a minute, but for now — saya is looking through the hero figurines like she thinks this is the funniest shit ever. she looks up when she spots temenos, and her expression... sours? hm.]
Go away.
[except she says this and she seems to be startled by it, blinking in surprise, before her expression sours again. this time it seems to be more at herself, though.]
[ okay so saya is a squelchy monster but she's a squelchy monster with feelings so like, you know, whatever. to each their own. anyway!! after curses are over and before people show up bloodied on thursdays, saya and temenos are hanging out.
so of course there's a memory involved! ]
it starts with a conversation (to 8:06, unvoiced) - reminiscing with agnea, as you travel through crackridge. she notes that your eyes are red, but you pass over it easily with a smile, and a compliment that flusters her, a little. the conversation could move on, and then - there's something about agnea, that it's hard not to talk to her, so you eventually confess a bit of nostalgia. about the person who was raised side by side with you, the one who was the inquisitor before you took up the mantle.
he's been on your mind, lately. you're having the dream again.
--
it's a chilly fall evening.
it must be midnight, when the knock comes. it's insistent and loud, startling you out of a completely peaceful slumber in your home back in flamechurch. you rise out of bed and pull on your cloak, to the sound of roi, your closest friend, the foundling raised beside you.
"temenos! it is i!", he says, knocking again, insistent. you sigh as you open the door. (to 6:17.)
this kind of talk is... unusual, for roi. roi is the most optimistic person you've ever known - he is honest to a fault, to a foolhardy one, earnest and sincere. you learned to be a cynic to protect him, because you knew he wouldn't protect himself. so, to hear the words from his mouth - "Temenos, I...I can no longer trust the church!" - something's very, very wrong.
roi explains to you in a rush about the darkblood bow as he presents it to you, an ominous thing. "It cannot be allowed to exist." roi says, his voice picking up in panic, explaining that he and the pontiff tried to destroy it, and they couldn't. he explains to you that he's going to hide the object, this bow, spirit it away from flamechurch, away from whatever malicious forces could have been using it.
"The church has secrets. Extraordinary, terrible secrets." are his last words to you.
you dream of those words for years afterwards: roi disappears into the night, and never returns.
--
as you journey across solistia, you find others. other travelers, people with their own goals and desires, but people willing to help, the same way people have helped you. you've journeyed through the ice cold of winterbloom and picked up a man face down on the ground and close to death who turned out to be a professor, seeking vengeance after the man who destroyed his life. you find an apothecary with no memories. a merchant, who wants to eliminate poverty. a thief, who becomes your friend.
a hot summer's day takes you to toto'haha, where you find a beastling hunter named ochette. she's seeking to end a calamity - the night of the scarlet moon, that would bring about terrible destruction, and has to find three beasts of legend to get their help. you all agree to help her without hesitation.
over dinner that evening, she tells you the story of what she faced just prior to your arrival. a monster approached and attacked her village. she describes the creature - bones on its back, massive glowing eyes, jaws dripping with saliva, tongue lolling from its mouth, emanating evil. it was twisted and deformed beyond all recognition. ochette sounds sad, as she describes it to the group over dinner, ears drooping to the side, contemplative instead of horrified. kind, because she always is.
"It spoke to me, and it was... sad."
"What did it say?" asks agnea - she's hanging on the edge of her seat over ochette's story telling at the moment, eyes wide and sad. you sit back, listening, a little amused at the sight, mind running in the background as ever to the information ochette supplies.
ochette tilts her head, trying to remember, and repeats, slowly: "...no longer trust.... cannot be allowed to exist..."
the others make noises of surprise or contemplation but you freeze where you're sitting, your hands tightening on the staff of judgement, and suddenly, their conversation is static in your ears.
"Temenos, I...I can no longer trust the church!"
"It cannot be allowed to exist."
it can't be. that's not logical. it couldn't be.
the moment is gone as quickly as it came - snapped back into place behind the placid mask of your smile when hikari offers you a drink - but your heart is pounding so hard that it feels like you're going to pass out, and you sit there, with your knowledge and the potential, and the doubt.
and, like so many times in your life, you feel that you've lost something --and there are more questions than answers that you'll ever have. ]
[GOD i'll tag back our memshares in a bit, but-- help. siz really did this to us.
temenos will have to look for A While before she finds her. she's curled up with her knees pulled up to her chest, staring at the ground with the dead eyed stare of someone who is all out of tears. but she lifts her gaze when he stumbles into her little hidey hole, quietly sniffling. hi.]
[ temenos looks - well, relieved, at first, when he finally finds saya, his shoulders slumping just a touch. as soon as he heard the news, saya was the first person on his mind, and he drops down to one knee, already reaching to gently unbuckle his cloak. and just like the first week, he unravels from it and moves to put it around her shoulders, if she'll let him. ]
saya is resting for now, fiddling with ace's beaded necklace and coughing every now and then. just a little. she looks up when she notices temenos, and then she scoots over before patting the spot next to her. come sit down.]
temenos is in drier clothes now instead of his cassock, and as soon as he sees saya, he comes trotting over, looking quietly relieved as he offers her a small, warm smile. ]
There you are.
[ as he's coming to sit next to her, immediately. plop. ]
[GOD. truly cannot believe something good happened to them for once. which just makes her think shittier things are on the horizon, but for now, at some point after they release will from group hug jail and temenos force feeds him ice cream:]
