[ i'm gonna set this for a little while after that failed investigation - at some point temenos disappears from the rabbit dorm, but he's not hard to find.
a wise person who knows him well would probably know the first place he'd go, and sure enough, temenos is in the cathedral. he's just kind of sitting on the floor underneath where the stained glass paneling is, the newspaper spread out in front of him, his notebook sitting open. he's writing in it, but his shoulders are tense and tight from where he's sitting, chewing on his lip and clearly hard at work.
[ Certainly is not. Especially since, funny enough, Axel thinks of the first place to search as the cathedral itself.
He walks into the place, footsteps as they ever are, not hiding the fact that someone is making an approach. In a sense, he is relieved to see he hasn't interrupted...prayer? Or stuff priests/clerics do.
In another sense, well. Today has sucked in so many ways. Danny and Vane being dead; the same for Ponta. And uh, apparently, someone is out to get Yellow Rabbit? Or maybe their team, judging by the news write up. Which, great...totally great. ]
Hey, Tem. You look hard at work. [ ... ] You dealing with everything alright?
[ He will sit down beside him. Maybe they can actually talk about a little work too. Things are going to be hard enough, looking at it tomorrow. ]
[ no, none of that, thankfully. it's just a quiet, safe place that feels familiar for a moment when things are frustrating and rocky.
and yet, like always, temenos is calm, at least on the surface. he looks up when he feels the footsteps, and takes a breath, centering himself as he finishes his sentence: when axel reaches him, he gives him a small smile. ]
I'm fine, if a bit irritated with those useless penguins.
[ as evidenced by the fact that he was smacking them around like it was penguin baseball at the end of that.
whether it's the truth or not that he's fine, well. as always with temenos, it is very hard to say. he frowns down at his notes, less complete than usual, and shakes his head. ] It troubles me that Datz and Tama were not even allowed to find Ponta before they were driven away.
[ Axel catches sight of Temenos' expression, given the fact that such misfortune has been upon them so soon.
And the elements of everything to consider. But, it is a smile he receives with a small one of his own, unable to help that. He feels that it is still an earnest smile, and perhaps his own company will help ease some of the stress, however little. ]
Sounds understandable to me.
[ The current state of the notes can be answer enough to his state of mind, perhaps. Then again, he hasn't had very long to get started all that much, either? ]
Yeah? Same. We've got a lot to consider on our hands. Ponta's body not being found now means time will have to be spent to hunt it down, I'm guessing.
...Three people in all one go. And two of them from Fox too. I don't think I was expecting that.
[ He remembers the conversation they had last week too. So it is like, there is some irony in all this as well. ]
[ axel knows him so well! the incomplete notes are definitely a sign. he's tired and annoyed and... well. the loss of vane in particular hits in a unique way, and danny... ]
We're going to be very busy tomorrow. [ with only nine hours to solve cases, and their numbers have dwindled. he taps his pen against his paper, brow furrowing again. the company is definitely appreciated, even if it's not as outwardly obvious as usual - but the fact that he's talking about the case and not just waving him off is a good sign. ]
I think we have to consider the idea that one of them killed the other, as we've had to before. Particularly with the Foxes - I know Ponta in particular was very against killing unless they had to. I wouldn't be surprised if he put himself up as a victim.
[ ... ]
...As for Danny - Lea, he killed Reigen. I've known for two weeks, now.
[ Axel is also looking over the notes himself. Once again, he'd usually even so much as hint at rest. But, with three people dead...
A brief look of sadness comes across his face at hearing that portion about Ponta. Putting himself up as a victim? It's a hard pill to swallow, but at the same time with everything happening as it is, it's not impossible. ]
I would find it hard to believe three separate killers who are alive did do their thing tonight, not gonna lie.
[ So, in essence, he can imagine it. Though, there's suddenly that revelation coming to light. ]
...He was the one who killed Reigen? Seriously? And he just told you?
I tell you this in the utmost of trust, but it may come out at trial tomorrow. If it does, act as if you knew nothing; I have been sworn to secrecy, and I break my confessional to share this with you, but only because he is dead.
[ that first, just as warning. he flips through his notes for a moment for something to do with his hands, coming back to the evidence from reigen's case. ]
... Reigen cursed Danny before he died that he had to tell someone what he did if he wasn't caught. That person then reached out to me for aid. The two of us have been working quite hard to keep his secret, and not only that, to ensure that he told the people who were the most harmed by it. Reigen made it quite clear he didn't want Danny to be killed in revenge, but he did need to own up to his deed. So, I've been keeping an eye on him.
[ ... so that makes it extra suck that he's dead. ]
But, I believe the contact with the dead may have complicated things. Not only that, but... based on the way he has been acting, I wouldn't put it past him to have put himself up for death, also. That is a touch more complicated, but I'd keep an eye on Will tomorrow.
[ Fortunately, Axel has always been good at following orders*. So, he so happens to give a little nod.
*Disclaimer: When he likes the person who is giving them. ]
Got it. Makes sense.
[ But, anyway, color Axel surprised. That Danny spilled information and that someone didn't immediately out him. Given how everything had transpired, he suspected the feat would be incredible in of itself, especially since Reigen's generally well-liked. ]
You think that someone from the other side might've spilled the beans? And then Danny decided to go ahead and put himself up?
...Will, huh? Your observations have been pretty much on point so I don't see a reason not to. I'm really not looking forward to how things are going to happen once tomorrow comes along. But, we'll make it work like always, yeah?
[ It's a little hard to sound optimistic right now, but he doesn't want to cede to the difficulty of anything. The revelation, the current state of everything, the possible still murky future. ]
[ there's a thankful little smile at first, just brief. it's nice, to be able to put your trust in someone and know it is safely held - temenos rarely trusts, so, to have it reaffirmed it was well placed here is a gift. ]
I think - not on purpose. But, we could read each other's conversations when we spoke with the dead, last week, and I think it quite likely they may have not realized it. Ace's warning about Nimona not staying in the treehouse, the way Reigen and Danny spoke to each other... add into that the two 'album reviews'. If we think of those both being written about Danny, the picture becomes quite clear.
He told me he didn't want to die, last week. [ danny, that is. the fox ears that have been present on temenos's head all day finally react properly, drooping just a little even if his expression doesn't change. it's frustrating. temenos tried to get through to him throughout the two weeks, but... ] ...But he was wracked with guilt, and I know he was planning to tell Will of what he did.
...Will's team needed to reach the quota. I can see how that conversation could have ended. I doubt either of them would've done it out of anything but a feeling of necessity.
Which makes the two other dead Foxes quite concerning, truthfully. I had little hope that we'd have only one this week, but... even I hadn't thought there'd be three. [ but axel does have a point, and he nods. ] We will. In the end, this ought to be the last one. And no matter whom we choose to vote for tomorrow, it is likely we will see them returned to us quickly.
Of course, that doesn't make it any less important to find the truth, but the matter stands.
[ Axel is all about giving all that he can to those he cares about. His presence, his loyalty, his kindness, without forsaking any of it. He is honest, but true (these days, anyway), and he is finding that it pays off.
Not just for himself, but for people who need it dearly. Like Temenos. ]
Man, some people are pretty good at learning stuff, huh? Or being able to read the signs and all that. I wouldn't have even guessed a single bit about either one of those things.
[ 'He told me he didn't want to die, last week.'
For a moment, Axel so happens to go quiet. Unavoidable, really. People never want to experience such a thing, and it's a terrible fate for somebody so young. ]
I can see how it could've ended like that. Which would've sucked, but...it makes a lot of sense to me.
Well, we'll have 9 whole hours to figure everything out. Just gotta haul ass hardcore to make it happen. [ A slight quirking upwards of his lips as he gives the other male a light nudge. Hard to be playful now, but it's whatever. ] I could start by helping you go over those notes so you're not the only one spinning your wheels in your head for hours on end too.
[ this tag is funny in retrospect. I WAS RIGHT ABOUT WILL just the wrong victim!!!!
he laughs a little bit at the first part. ] Nothing escapes my eyes, Lea. Particularly not the truth.
[ so maybe he's a little unusual. or just hyper observant. it's probably the latter, temenos is a little bit of a freak. but he takes the nudge, accepting it and the light humor, and ends up leaning a little further against him to spread out his notebook so they can both see it. as usual, his notes are neat and well written, documenting every piece of evidence they found, and every piece of evidence others have reported. ]
Very well. Prepared to get to work, are you? You know I've high expectations.
You know, I actually have seen literally nothing that says it does. Well, maybe except surprise air flowing up from grates or something.
[ Temenos may quite unique but he only finds that sort of hyper-vigilance as a charm point. He wonders if the other realizes just how incredible it is, to catch things that even the most intelligent people might miss. But, he also believes it to be a honed skill, which makes it even more amazing.
When the other leans up against him, he peers closer at the notebook, smile clear on his lips. ]
I know you do. Still, what else can I do but meet them, like I always have?
[ And this too, Axel says with full confidence.
...He will match Temenos' step as if following it to a beat. ]
w6 friday.
