Or perhaps for mercy. Though, if Yellow Rabbit is to be believed, it's also for impromptu weddings. Seems a bit less austere than the chapel and cathedral at home, to say the very least.
[ this is valid behavior? he sees nothing wrong with it
anyway ]
Neither have I. I do believe the archdiocese at home might swoon at the sight, and not in the ways of romance.
[ the sacred flame loves love probably but elopements in a gambling den not so much. temenos thinks, however, it is very funny. ] That does seem to be the only one in town, so I imagine their university is secular.
Well. Half of the city was destroyed - perhaps there's more out there, where we can't see...?
[ but it doesn't seem likely. then again, temenos is from a podunk town in the middle of nowhere where all the schooling was done in the chapel so this is still big. ] You must be from quite the large place, Mika.
Oh, that would make sense. The rest of the city is just still under repair...
[ this is what makes sense to her. because yes, she is from a very big city. a city that is bigger than it makes sense for a city to be. she thinks that's normal. ]
I don't know about that. I don't really have anything to compare Kivotos to. Except this, I suppose, but everyone has been calling this place strange since we got here. I'm not sure it's a good point of reference.
[ LISTEN..... anyway she nods and will start kind of wandering in the general cafe direction. ]
Well... It really depends on what district you're in. A lot of them are very different from one another. For example, Abydos has been overtaken by the desert in recent years, but Red Winter tends to be cold all year round.
Hmm. This sort of sovereign border talk is better served to a scholar, not me. But... it really is just a city? I could say I live somewhere quite similar, but it would be a general answer as opposed to a much more specific one.
Well, I'm not sure how exciting it is, in comparison to yours, but I'd be happy to tell you.
[ with a smile! he'll hold the door open to whatever cafe they find for her. ] I grew up in a place much, much, much smaller than this. The fact that there could be more than one schoolhouse, let alone one that large, would be unusual there. In fact, we didn't even have one schoolhouse; just the chapel and the Cathedral.
It sounds a bit like your city. The Winterlands, it's always cold; the Crestlands, where I live, it is perpetually autumn.
[ aw, so polite. she will step inside and scope out a table for them. a nice spot by the window, of course! ]
We still have seasons in Kivotos, but some areas are more prone to certain weather. But Autumn... At least it's a pretty season! And the season of change.
It is beautiful. [ ah.. there's a bit of nostalgia here when he talks, fond. and he smiles when she picks the seat, approving of the spot! good choice, good choice. ]
Flamechurch is tucked into the mountains - it's mostly well known for the Cathedral of the Sacred Flame, but if you ask me, the views are just as lovely. The changing leaves from the forest make the place look like living gold in the sunset, and the Flame kept in the upper part of town adds to it.
Despite the season, it is a place that often changes very little. The smallest towns rarely do.
I see... But if it's that beautiful, it could be a good thing it doesn't change much. If it's peaceful.
I've always hated places that are too chaotic. Sometimes change is necessary, but - being open to too much change can make a place unstable and untrustworthy.
Mmm. I admit, when the turbulence of the moment at home ends, I'm looking forward to returning to the quiet of a sleepy little hamlet for a little while. It's high time for it.
[ god that sounds nice, actually. too bad there's a murdergame and also the end plot of octopath traveler to deal with. ]
I know what you mean. I want to just go home and relax and do what I'm supposed to for a while...
[ im canonblind and suddenly afraid for this man, thank you ]
Kivotos is... Well, it really varies depending on the district. I wouldn't call it calm, but I'd reserve chaotic for very specific areas. Trinity tends to be quiet, though, since we expect our students to be well-behaved.
I'd imagine so. [ a church school's gotta be kind of peaceful, right? it sounds nice. lightly, amused:] Well-behaved and kind sheep do make a successful flock...
Are you one of those well behaved students? [ teasing: ] Or are you a troublemaker?
he gives her a smile, though - very kind. big cleric priest energy. ]
Well, now. That is what matters, is it not? Even if you stray from a path, the path itself still remains. To be a bit wayward never means to be entirely lost.
[ baby!!! with that same warmth: ] And should you need a bit of guidance, I'd be happy to help where I can. Guiding my wayward lambs is something of a specialty of the Church, and a specialty of mine.

[ mm. she pauses on that for a moment, like a weirdo. then moves on. ]
I see... So it's for people to elope. How interesting. I've never seen a chapel designed for such a thing.

Everything here is so strange. This whole city is so small that they only need a couple of schools! Isn't that funny?

Mm. What's Kivotos like? Come - let's find a cafe for that tea and cake, and we can chat about it.

There, there. Each world seems to be quite different - I trust your word on it as the expert far more than my own.

Everything I hear about other worlds is so strange... But I would like to hear about yours.
